Major cruise lines began suspending service in the United States in mid-March 2020. From that point on it was very fluid as to when the cruise operators could resume.

Decisions for scheduled return to service were made month-by-month as the pandemic gradually worsened and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control guidance was constantly changing.

Why Did Cruise Lines Cancel 2020 Sailings?

On October 31, the CDC no sail order expired and it was replaced by a conditional sail order. At that point, major US cruise lines started canceled their remaining sailings through 2020.

Shortly followed by a statement from the industry trade group CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) saying the ‘voluntary’ suspension of cruising would extend until December 31, 2020.

Here are the details for North American departures that have been canceled because of the pandemic, cancellation dates, compensation resources, and their scheduled return to service date.

Note: Some lines may also be operating in other parts of the world.
