NCL Compensates Cruisers After Technical Glitch Delays Florida-based Ship

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) recently announced “technical issues” onboard Norwegian Jade, forcing the cruise ship to sail more slowly. As a result, one group of passengers had an extra-long sailing while the next group had their itinerary cut short by a day.

The first group of passengers impacted were those who left for July 14 to 20 on a roundtrip Caribbean voyage; due to technical issues, the ship returned to Port Canaveral on the 21st instead.

Meanwhile, the second group of guests set to embark on the 20th had their sailing delayed by one day and left on the 21st.

NCL’s letter to the second batch of guests reads, “All guests are asked to arrive for embarkation on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the time originally selected for July 20, 2024, within online check-in.”

No other reasons were given for the delay except for a “technical issue.” “Unfortunately, due to a technical issue which has impacted the speed of our beautiful ship, but will not impact your safety or that of our crew during your upcoming vacation with us, we are unable to make the speed needed to get to Port Canaveral, Fla. on time for embarkation,” the email explained.

“Repairs are scheduled to take place prior to our departure on July 21, 2024 from Port Canaveral, Fla. to mitigate any additional impacts to your voyage,” it continued.

Norwegian Jade departed shortly before midnight on July 21, removing Tortola, Virgin Islands, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, from its updated itinerary. The new itinerary is calling to Puerta Plata, Nassau, and the private island Great Stirrup Cay.

  • Maximum reimbursement of $300 per guest for travel fees and penalties not covered by travel insurance
  • Prorated refunds for guests with shorter sailings
  • Up to $100 onboard credits per stateroom

Norwegian Jade re-entered service last March following a three-week dry dock and extensive renovations.
