Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Sun Princess, has set sail on its maiden voyage in a “historic day” for the cruise line.
The new ‘Love Boat’ is on a 10-day Grand Mediterranean cruise calling at Naples, Crete; Kusadasi, Turkey, Athens, Sicily, Mallorca, and Barcelona.
The 4,300-guest Sun Princess is the first ship in the fleet powered by liquefied natural gas and introduces a host of new culinary concepts and amenities. “This ship is a magnificent showcase of advanced design and technology. This is an historic day,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president.
New venues include The Dome, a glass-enclosed structure that takes inspiration from the terraces of Santorini. The suspended Sphere Atrium reimagines the central Piazza with sweeping ocean views and an open concept. The Princess Arena offers live performances in the round.
Expanded casino and more retail options
Sun Princess also houses the Princess fleet’s largest casino, a two-story Lotus Spa, and expanded retail options with 25 new brands on the ship. These include Italian handbags by Pinko and athleisure brands Beyond Yoga and Varley. The ship debuts the line’s first dedicated family activity zone, called Park19.
New dining collaborations
Sun Princess showcases new chef collaborations, such as Kai Sushi by Makoto by Chef Makoto Okuwa and The Catch by Rudi (Chef Rudi Sodamin). A notable dining experience is Spellbound by The Magic Castle, which blends top culinary offerings with creative cocktails and magic performances. There are up to 30 dining and bar venues on the ship.
Sun Princess accommodations feature more than 1,500 staterooms boasting balcony views and introduce new Cabana Mini-Suites, which have extra space for outdoor relaxation.
