The billionaire and owner of Virgin Voyages surprised the entire plane by announcing that all Delta SkyMiles members were entitled to a free cruise on Virgin Voyages.

The festivities began at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s departure gate when Sir Richard Branson suddenly joined its unsuspecting passengers.

Dressed as a games master, lucky passengers were treated to specialty drinks, games, and prizes like free flights, hotel accommodations, and giveaways. The colorful personalities from Virgin Voyages’ Happenings Cast also interacted with guests.

As passengers boarded the plane and settled into their seats, the voice of the 73-year-old Branson was heard over the PA system. Saving the best for last, he announced that all SkyMiles members over 18 would be awarded a complimentary Virgin Voyages cruise on its San Juan itineraries.

The creative and planned surprise on February 29 was designed to drum up publicity for the cruise line’s Resilient Lady.

After its inaugural season this fall, it will homeport in San Juan, calling on Latin American and Caribbean ports while stopping at popular cruise destinations like St. Vincent, St. Maarten, Dominica, and Colombia.

After joining the revelry, Branson said, “The Caribbean has been my home for many years, and I’m very excited to welcome Resilient Lady as she sails from San Juan to visit the region’s most beautiful destinations.”

He added, “My excitement clearly couldn’t be contained, so we came up with a way to celebrate with a personal invitation and surprise for some unsuspecting guests on a Delta flight to San Juan.”

Earlier this week, the cruise line altered Resilient Lady’s usual itinerary. It will head to Puerto Rico for the winter, canceling its Australian cruise season.
