Princess Cruises Announces Name, Itineraries For Second Sphere-Class Ship

Princess Cruises has announced the name of its second Sphere class ship, which will sail an inaugural season of Mediterranean voyages when she debuts in August 2025.

Currently under construction at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, Star Princess — along with Sun Princess — are the largest ships that have ever been built for Princess at 175,500 gross tons.

Though 20 percent larger than any of the line’s existing ships, Star Princess‘ design retains the more intimate settings Princess is known for, with a number of new and redesigned spaces including:

• The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini
• The next-level Piazza featuring a glass sphere
• The “see it to believe it” Princess Arena, a configurable, technologically-advanced main theater that allows Princess to produce a variety of entertainment concepts
• A dining room at the aft of the ship for wake views

Star Princess will also feature also include a variety of new food and beverage concepts, an expanded casino, a two-story Lotus Spa, and entertainment headlined by Cirque Éloize. Stateroom and suite options will include the new Reserve and Signature Collections.

The ship will be the second in Princess Cruises‘ fleet powered by liquefied natural gas after Sun Princess.

Star Princess will debut on August 4, 2025, operating a nine-day inaugural Italy and Greece roundtrip voyage from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Corfu, Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini, and Naples. Following that sailing, the ship will operate nine and 10-day cruises from Rome, Athens, or Trieste (Venice).

Voyages will open for booking on June 1, 2023.

The upcoming Star Princess will be the third in the Princess fleet to bear the name. The first launched in 1988 as Sitmar Fair Majesty. With the merger of Sitmar Cruises into Princess, she then entered service as Star Princess in 1989.

The second Star Princess launched in 2002, as the third Grand-class vessel playing an important role in the evolution of the brand with offerings like anytime dining.
