Carnival Vista is sailing again after an extended stay in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
On Tuesday, Carnival Vista was visiting the island as part of its eight-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary when an announcement onboard around sail away said that the ship was suffering mechanical issues.
Two separate emails were sent to Cruise Radio from guests onboard, who told us the ship was still sitting in San Juan at 9:00 p.m. and still at 3:00 a.m. Guests advised us that the ship has problems and that “the engineers are working on it.”
Carnival told us, “Carnival Vista’s engineers resolved a technical issue that caused a delayed departure from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship’s itinerary has been modified, changing the order in which it visits St. Thomas and St. Maarten on Wednesday and Thursday, to maximize guests’ experience.” |
The ship departed San Juan, Puerto Rico, just before 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday and arrived in St. Thomas at 11:00 a.m.

Carnival Vista has experienced technical issues since its launch in 2016.
In 2019, the ship was taken out of service and brought to the Bahamas for an emergency technical fix at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport. Last year, sister ship Carnival Panorama was taken out of service for technical repairs.
Carnival Vista, one of three Vista-class ships, was previously sailing from Galveston, Texas, and is now operating Caribbean sailings from Central Florida.
