Disney Cruise Line Introduces DisneyBand+ Wearable This Summer

At long last, Disney Cruise Line has announced that it will be debuting the MagicBand+ technology that it uses at Disney World and Disneyland on one of its cruise ships.

Starting this summer, guests will have the opportunity to preview the new technology and its capabilities on select Disney Wish sailings before its official debut. And it won’t be called MagicBand on Disney Cruise Line — instead the bracelet will be called DisneyBand+.

The waterproof DisneyBand+ will allow guests to unlock their cabin door, charge their account for a sweet treat, or purchase a souvenir at one of the onboard shops. Kids ages three and older will also be able to use it in place of the traditional Oceaneer Club Band to access kids’ clubs, including the Oceaneer Club on board and Scuttle’s Cove at Disney Cruise Line’s private island Castaway Cay.

The band will also allow Disney cruise photographers to link their photos to their onboard account so they can easily view and purchase copies, and it will also unlock special surprises throughout the ship.

Even though the rechargeable bands have a different name from the Disney parks’ MagicBands, they will work in the same way a MagicBand+ does — meaning guests can use it both on a cruise and during a Disney parks trip.

The DisneyBand+ bracelets will come in three Disney Cruise Line-exclusive designs to choose from. They will be an optional cruise add-on and will not be included in the cruise fare.

More information about the first Disney Wish sailings that will preview the new technology will be posted on Disney Cruise Line’s website in the near future.
